Critical Play QTs: Life is Strange

Finn and I put together a “let’s play”/video essay of the game Life is Strange for our Feminism and Pop Culture course. We termed this kind of video project “critical play” as we wanted to prove that, as Anita Sarkeesian argues in her Feminist Frequency videos, it is possible to be critical of a game while still enjoying it. Furthermore, by examining Life is Strange through two popular genres of game criticism, we hope to make academic research about games and feminism more accessible (and enjoyable) to a wider audience. As we mention in the Critical Play’s introduction, with so few women and non-male game critics out there, we feel that adding our voices to this conversation is, in itself, a radical act.
