Today, Jennie Robinson Faber and I officially launched Weird Ghosts, a brand new impact fund for underrepresented game studio founders across Canada. This is a huge deal for both of us.
Today is October 30th, which means not only is it spooky season (and what better time for ghosts?), but it’s what would have been my brother Alec’s 38th birthday. He died just over 2 years ago. I’ve been working ever since on how to keep his love of games & community alive.
I’ve also spent this time thinking about how we can make our indie game dev communities safer & more accessible. Weird Ghosts is one answer to that question. We want to change how games funding & studio structures work. We want to encourage healthier futures for game devs.
Weird Ghosts supports video game studios with grants, catalytic investments, and community in order to build strong, impactful teams of underrepresented makers who are shaping the future of games.
